Snickerdoodles (cookies)


From the kitchen of Sylvia Russell (Makes 6 dozen)

My mom made these every Christmas.

1 cup shortening (part butter or margarine)

1 ½ cup of sugar

2 eggs

2 ¾ cup all purpose flour

2 teaspoons cream of tartar (spice)

1 teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon of salt

2 teaspoons of sugar

2 teaspoons of cinnamon

  1. Heat Oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Mix shortening, sugar and eggs toughly, creaming them together.
  3. Measure flour by dipping or sifting method.
  4. Bend flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt, stir in.
  5. Shape dough in 1 inch balls
  6. Roll in mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Places two inches appear on ungreased baking sheet.
  8. Bake 8-10 minutes this puff up at first, and then flatten out.
